As for food, never before has society enjoyed such an abundance. And yet, many's diets are extremely poor, consisting basically of either industrialised or fast foods. This acts as a catalyst to a myriad of health issues, such as obesity, diabetics and the like. To tackle this matter, in turn, has become one of the defining issues of our time.

Also known as junk food, fast food has taken over many countries. This is because not only is fast food far cheaper than conventional food but it is also testier. Seemingly due to the wide adoption of industrial techniques, all of which are both efficient and productive, the explosion of fast food options comes as no surprise. Not to mention, the billions poured by the food industry to enhancing its taste, turning junk food almost irresistible for many.

The consequences of such a lifestyle, however, are catastrophic. And many physicians urge that people should change their eating habits at once, which can be attained by two very simple yet powerful measures; taxation and education. By imposing heavier taxations on fast foods, the extra costs will probably end up raising its prices so that people might have second thoughts before opt for consuming it. What is more, perhaps the most effective measure might be through education. That is, providing diet and nutrition classes since early age which could foster awareness of the importance of balanced diets.

Hence, that this is a wide and far-reaching issue with no clear outcomes is more than overt. Regardless, I fear that only when governments ally forces with both citizens and food industries, can this trend be effectively curbed.
